Seq 2.4 released, new preview coming

Seq 2.4, just released, continues the theme of refinement in the 2.x series.

  • Real-time compaction, supported on Windows Server 2012 R2 and better, evens out I/O spikes on busy Seq servers while making better use of available disk space
  • New filtering optimizations speed up retrieval of events when complex filters are used
  • Restricted signals lessen the chance of accidental modification of important signals such as those used by retention policies

A host of smaller bug fixes and enhancements improve user experience and stability. You can read the full release notes linked from the announcement and download Seq 2.4 from the Seq website.

Aggregate Queries in Seq - Diary

As mentioned in our last update, aggregate queries like count, min, max and mean will be a feature of the next Seq release. To gather some early feedback and keep everyone in the loop, progress on the feature is going up on Nick's blog:

  2. Defining a Syntax
  3. An Opportunistic Parser
  4. Planning
  5. Execution

Here's a sneak peek at the feature as it looks today:

Aggregate Query Preview

A downloadable preview is planned before the end of this month, so stay tuned!
